The Big Bad News

Hi Everyone,

So you may or may not have heard, but my publisher, Strange Chemistry, is no more, effective immediately. This means they won’t be publishing Crushed after all. It’s a shock; I literally found out yesterday. It’s seven weeks before Crushed was to be released and I have no publisher and no plan, and very little information from the Angry Robot/Osprey folks to go on.  But I will tell you this: I don’t know how, and I don’t exactly when, but watch for it, because Meda is coming. Crushed will be released if I have to self-pub it.

If you want to help:

(1)   Assuming I end up self-pubbing, I’ll need to put together my own blog tour—so if you have a book blog, I’d love to be on it.  Email me: elizacrewe at gmail

(2)    Spread the word—like Cracked, like Crushed? Tell people.

(3)    Buy my books

And one last thing, please keep an eye out for the other SC refugees. They are some good folks with some good books, and man, my heart is breaking for the debut authors especially. At least I’ve gotten to see my book, hold it in my hands, and read all your hilarious gif- and profanity-laden reviews.  They were SO CLOSE to having their dreams come true. It’s tough guys. Tough.

It was a great experience, publishing with Strange Chemistry. Amanda Rutter was a fantastic editor to work with, and if any of you have had the pleasure of interacting with Caroline Lamb, PR-person extraordinaire, you’ll understand why this is so especially sad, not just on a professional level, but a personal one, too.

As for my Indian fans, as far as I know (I’ll now be adding that caveat to any publishing plan!), Penguin is still planning to release the whole trilogy on the Indian sub-continent, so it’s business as usual in your part of the world (woot!).

Thanks for all the support guys, it means the world to me.

E. Crewe.

I'm so sorry to hear about this, Eliza. You were so lovely about offering to send me a CRACKED review copy way back when, and it came at such a busy time that I wasn't able to take you up on it. I heard SUCH great feedback from my friends that I was really pleased when a Strange Chem publicist contacted me a few weeks ago saying she'd send both CRACKED and CRUSHED to be reviewed together. I'm sorrier than I can say that your publishing plan for the sequel is now in flux, but I wish you all the best and will make an effort to at least read the first book when I can.

Thanks for the kind words, Wendy. I love your reviews, and it would be an honor to hear what you think about Cracked, whenever it happens :).

I'm so sorry to hear this news! A friend told me about SC and I had to run over here to find out about Crushed. I just downloaded the ARC and am so excited to read it, but I'll be buying a copy whenever you publish it, however that happens! Any way I can spread the news and push Cracked, I will. And I'd love to help with any blog tours. I hope everything works out because Meda really is one of my favorite characters!

So sorry to hear this. We've had some wonderful experiences with the Strange Chemistry team. It's so sad to hear that they are closing.
We loved Cracked and we received an ARC for Crushed. We'd be happy to push your book on our blog when you have a new release date.

So sad to hear about this! I had pre-ordered Crushed on amazon and just received an email notification from them saying that the "new expected release date" is "January 1, 2035"... I thought it was a system glitch, but now I understand... :(

I don't have any advice to offer, but if you are looking to self-publish, perhaps someone like Barry Eisler may be a good person to try contacting? I don't know him personally, but I enjoy his books and he seems to have gone down the self-publishing route successfully.

I look forward to eventually getting to read Crushed whenever it comes out! :)

Did you ever publish Crushed with someone else?

Hi Stella,

I ended up self-publishing it, and it was still published by Penguin in India, and, strangely enough, translated into Turkish and sold there.
